- Dan Farrell, Account Manager, Cegedim Dendrite (colleague):
- John has an in depth knowledge of the systems he works with and has previously worked with that is unmatched in DEMAND IT. John understands the CRM and alignment data and their connections and the table structures of these databases better than anyone else I have encountered.
- Dyke Hanson, Consultant, Eli Lilly and Company (colleague):
- I have worked with John on 2 seperate assignments while I was in the Demand IT organization from 2004 - 2009. Our biggest involvement was on a project that required the retrieval of Customer Master Data from the Oracle Databases and be loaded into the Netezza Data Warehouse. John was always helping and providing ideas and solutions to the retrieval of the customer master data that provided me with a successfull completion of my project. John is very knowledgeable of his area, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure that projects were completed at LIlly. In his projects he shows initiative, problem solving solutions and can provide both leadership and solutions depending on the situation.

- I worked with John Murphy as a Subject Matter Expert with the support team for Sales Force Automation and Customer Data Interfaces. John is an excellent technical resource who sees the large picture of system integration and data management. John was exceptional at accelerating the completion of project tasks and managing the actions and responsibilities of dedicated resources for those project tasks. As a project team member, John routinely assumed responsibility for challenging opportunities and always delivered action items on time and under budget. I would consider John to be very astute at identifying scope creep, and leveraging best practices to keep tasks and projects on schedule. John Murphy would be an excellent addition to any team looking for a technical resource that can manage and deliver assignments successfully and with quality.
- Cort Clampitt, Consultant, IT, Eli Lilly (colleague):
- Since 2004, I have led projects in which John completed tasks per my direction and some in which John, as a member of a collaborating team, directed others to complete technical tasks. He is great to work with. John is a creative, detailed, jovial, driven, problem solving person. He slides easily between technical and user facing roles. He thinks broadly about an issue. Typically, his first thought is the option to put data in the user’s hands as quickly as possible, such as real-time processing. He trained himself in Cold Fusion and created a POC on his own time in order to demonstrate a project option Lilly had not considered. This directly influenced the requirements Lilly provided to the vendor. John is direct and energetic. You know where you stand with him, yet, his delivery puts people at ease. I believe his greatest asset is his ability to translate the business requirements into very technical direction for the technical resource and then guide them. He may have a different opinion than I, or want a more technical role. Even so, it is a strength he is unable to suppress. I would use John on all of my projects if given the opportunity
- Yogesh Gupta, Project Manager, TCS (business partner):
- John is a very detail oriented, results focused person. He has been the "go to" person for coming up with results for issues. An extremely responsive individual, who reflects a solid commitment to service and a dedicated work ethic. I find him to be incredibly knowledgeable and have enjoyed working with him. Great asset for any organization.
- Grant Griffith IT Developer Cook Medical Retired Systems Analyst (colleague):
- I worked with John on several occasions when we were in the same management structure and when we were in separate structures. In all incidents, John performed in a professional manner approaching the "opportunities" we were presented, with a can-do attitude. Some of our joint projects were daily support issues and others were over several months. I enjoyed working with John and would recommend him highly.
- S. Lynn Persson, Senior Project Manager, Sales Planning & Analysis, Quintiles (business partner):
- John and I worked together to help set up the Lilly Quintiles partnership for our Cymbalta teams. He was so patient and helped us figure out how to set up the links between our two companies. He's always been proactive and never forgets to involve us when new things arise - as he truly understands the Quintiles business. I just can't say enough about working with John, but he's a man that's responsive, dedicated and a fantastic problem solver!

- Anjali Raje, Quality Consultant, Eli Lilly (colleague):
- I have interacted with John for almost 2-3 years at Eli Lilly and Company; this recommendation, however, is from my own personal opinion of John and does not in any way represent Eli Lilly and Company. John, has always been very easy person to work with. He was always willing to answer technical questions patiently. He also made sure quality was engraved in all the technical work that he was involved with. He consulted with me on all the quality issues related to his work. John has also been a “go-to person” for technical questions related to the systems he supported.
- Timothy Russell, Associate Consultant IT, Eli Lilly and Company (colleague):
- I worked with John in one of the most demanding of CRM environments the scope of which included the management of about 120 automated interfaces between large back-end database systems and front-end sales automation tools including 5000+ laptop users. Needless to say, this included management of multiple layered non-similar technologies woven into a single holistic CRM tool. I can reccommend John on the basis of his excellent work in maintaining a high standard of system availability and reliability within the context of constantly evolving front and back-end data systems over several years of time.
- Mark Burks - Director of Marketing:

He attended the all-day module standardization session and provided the team with valuable information to assist meeting the team objectives to reduce waste and increase productivity.
- Pat Slabach - Marketing Associate:
- John is very technical and is able to answer questions with good assurances, giving competent, accurate, and technically correct information. This is critical in answering customer data questions. John is very good about responding to questions as well as providing the "extra" information others need to do a better job. John needs to delegate smaller tasks to others who are capable of handling them. His communication style needs to be geared more to an "executive summary", especially when communicating with supervisors and non-technical business partners.
- Mark Burks - Director of Marketing:
- I see you as a professional who is striving to do the right thing and make a positive impact working with a difficult system. I'm not familiar with the skill set required for your position per se, but I definitely think you have become the "go to" person in a very short period of time. I appreciate your Customer Data Integraty Councel updates and feel this communication surpasses my expectations. I also want to express my thanks for your efforts to continue to improve data integrity - thanks!
- E Conn Hermann - Associate Info Consultant, Demand IT Application Support:
- Yes, I am impressed with your breadth and depth of understanding of the complex Premier Force Inteface environment. You are also leveraging strong technical expertise in the technologies required SAS, MVS, Oracle, MQseries for example. You are also communicating and managing relationships with team members, other projects, business and even external vendors/partners (TCS, Dendrite, Amylin, Innovex and throughout Demand IT) very effectively.
- Donna Simpson Team Leader/Manager:
- John is consistently asked, by mgmt, to engage in operational strategy discussions related to the continued use of the PF/PFI applications, and operational improvement ideas. - Tisha Craghead - Quality Coordinator, IT-US Bus Intel-Data Qual/Info Access:
- On the Innovex project, you demonstrated a high level of technical expertise in your area, and brought solution ideas to the table to help us improve the data that we are delivering to Innovex. This allowed Lilly to meet the commitment of providing valuable sales call data sharing with our external business partner.
- Robin Kinnick Team Leader/Manager:
- John is able to apply his past experience to solve current problems. Along with strong analytical skills, he has a deep understanding of the data capture technical environment that has proven to be extremely valuable to his peers and customers. There have been several situations on the DCC/IT forum where John was able to solve business problems. Recently, the Data Collection Coordinators requested that we create new modules for copyrighted questionnaires. John analyzed this situation and designed a technical solution that would allow us to use existing modules mapped to unique ids. This satisfied the DCCs need and saved our team considerable time. This is just one of many examples of where John has been able to provide valuable solutions to business problems.
- Michael C Smith (Medical Operations Director):
- In order for John to respond to the needs of the MedDRA project, he was required to come up a steep learning curve to fully understand the parameters of the project so as to integrate an IT solution around a business need. He did this fast and well. With the new knowledge, John applied his technical expertise and worked to develop a plan and process to efficiently manage the transfer of data from system to system with minimal issues. In developing the process, John also applied a quality check to ensure that the data leaving one system could be tracked as it entered another system and then back again. This was an integral step for ensuring accuracy and quality of data that contributed to the overall minimal impact to the business of data management.
- Conchita Dy - Lead Data Capture Analyst, CORI Group, Sydney Australia:
- Being the CORI Technical/Support contact, John has demonstrated not only his patience but also his ability to share his technical and business knowledge. His presence in our meetings has provided the CORI group a clear understanding on Lilly’s process and how to achieve our common goals.
- Linda Pfeiffer - Data Collection Lead:
- Your maturity and experience has led the team to make better decisions (i.e. birthdate #days). You are continually learning the business side of things and have developed applications that have improved the productivity of the group. You usually say what you think, always being honest and sincere, never sugar coating.
- Richard Singleton - Team Leader/Manager:
- Your work on the Global Clinical Trial crosscheck edits demonstrated your ability to think creatively. On this project you worked closely with your peers and developed alternative solutions. When it would have been easier to give up, you continued your search for the right way to accomplish the edits without impacting the system negatively. The result was a very happy customer, especially the Data Management analysts, and establishing FDA compliance with the submission of clinical trial results.
- Michael Muirhead - AS400 Senior Analyst:
- As the Data Capture Technical Lead I think the Shared Learning sessions have a genuine value. On the point of Teamwork/Interpersonal I would like to encourage you to continue the strong sense of teamwork and shared ownership on issues that cross the boundaries between Data Capture and CTSYS. A strong alliance/collaboration between our two groups will only help to serve our mutual customers better.
- Dionne Talerico (IT Quality Coordinator, Bad Homburg LD):
- John is able to multi-task at an exceptional rate. He takes on several projects and is able to excel in all of them. His technical expertise has been very helpful for me in Data Capture and as well I appreciate it when he takes time to answer questions right away even if he is busy with a current project.
- Richard Singleton - Team Leader/Manager:
- Your work with the Web Based Training Tool has allowed the team to deliver a high quality, training tool that will improve the delivery of training to the new Data Capture Analysts. Your have demonstrated with your peers a high level of knowledge and expertise with AS/400, the Clinical Trial System application as well as web tools such as HTML, Java, and VB Scripts. You have consistently volunteered to help the DC group and take on additional work when needed. Your peers regularly seek your input and help on assignments where your technical knowledge is needed or when there is help needed from someone they can count on to complete the task.
- I was involved in the EIC Scrub project where by the team needed to create a process to systematically create a “PUSH” file to IMS and receive back a “PULL” file containing “scrubbed” data. One of the objectives was to validate the State License information on an Annual basis, but we also needed to maintain valid Expiration Date information. The process that was being seriously considered would be to select records 334 days (±5 days) since the last update. I knew that there was a potential of up to 15% “drop outs” for each batch due to Manual Lookups by IMS. The cost of manual processing is $2.00 per record. Because of my experience in data flow and my knowledge of Date manipulation gained as A Data Capture Analyst, I realized that there was a more efficient way to process the records and keep track of the last validation request to IMS. I created a table (shown below) that explained these concerns and attached a dollar amount to help express the impact. I spoke to the Marketing Advisor, my Team Leader, the Project Lead, and the Developer involved in the part of the project to review my documentation. With the above example, there is a possibility of resubmitting data more than once within the ±5 day window. Below is an estimated cost of resending data that would fall twice within the ±5 day window.
- # Physicians = 1,500,000
- Avg. Weekly Batch = 28,846
- 15% Fall Out – Manual Lookup = 4,327
- $2.00 of Manual Lookup = $8,653.85
- Annual Cost = $450,000.20
- I was able to provide a savings to the Company of $450,000 per year in unnecessary validation expenditures.

- I have used the HTML option on the AS400. I think the tool is really helpful and extremely easy to use. I like the idea of having all the data for one patient readily available on one output screen. The color-coding of the edits allows the user to quickly scan, which modules are clean and which modules are not clean.
- I just started using the HTML tool and I think it's FAB! What a huge improvement to see all the data together like that. Big time-saver! Bravo!
- The EERS team encountered system performance issues with updating their HCP data base on a weekly basis. Using Data Science techniques, John aggressively engaged with EERS and developed the delta process for HCP’s. Due to his depth knowledge of the systems, leveraged the current applications and provided a daily delta file for HCP’s and addresses directly to EERS server with in a short period of time. He received a positive feedback from EERS team for improving system performance as well as his quick approach to implement the new solution.
